The Case Against Wheat

Wheat is Making You Sick

When you think of wheat, you might conjure romantic images of a golden/amber field full of wheat stalks blowing in the wind, or you might think of the warm fluffy bread that it can create. Unfortunately, wheat has changed drastically in the last 100 years and it is largely contaminated with toxins. While meat and sugar are worthy contenders in the race to the bottom, wheat is by and large the number one problem in most people's diet that is making them sick, damaging their gut, and keeping them from realizing the youthful radiant health they otherwise deserve.

Glyphosate

Wheat is the most beloved, wide-spread, and popular grain of them all but sadly it is also the most heavily contaminated with glyphosate. Glyphosate is an herbicide that is not just toxic to plants but causes extreme damage to your gut and was found to be a neurotoxin and massive contributor to oxidative stress in the body. The extreme destructive properties of glyphosate on your gut health and microbiome and reason enough to leave wheat behind.

Gluten and Leaky Gut

Leaky gut is a major issue for a lot of people, especially people with autoimmune disease, and wheat is a major contributor. When you have leaky gut your intestines become permeable which allows undigested food, bacteria, and other particles to leak out into your system triggering massive inflammatory and immune response. Gluten triggers the release of a protein called zonulin which specifically signals to the junctions in your intestines to open, causing the gut to leak. Having this frequently occur is a recipe for disease.

Addiction

Wheat is also highly addictive, to the point where people even experience withdrawal symptoms similar to what you would experience from quitting opiates. It is not uncommon to experience up to four weeks of depression, head aches, fatigue, and indigestion.

The reason for this is that gluten contains an opioid peptide known as gliadorphin. Opioid peptides are amino acids found in foods that chemically bind to opioid receptor sites in our nerve cells which contribute to addictive properties, similar to taking opiates found in external drugs. Combine this with salt, sugar, or fat and you are creating the perfect environment for a food addiction.

There Are Alternatives

Once you understand how damaging wheat is, especially in its modern contaminated form, removing it from your diet becomes imperative. If you do not remove wheat, you are holding yourself back from achieving the optimal health you deserve.

Thankfully, there are alternatives. There are many pseudo-grains (very similar to grains, but the plants are slightly different and a lot more nutritious) available to completely replace traditional grains like wheat. We highly recommend you experiment with quinoa, buckwheat, amaranth, and other pseudo-grains because the benefits of removing wheat can be so life-changing and extreme, you'll never want to go back.

God Bless,
